About Michael "Mic"

Mic was born and raised in Tyler, Texas which has many similarities to Hampton. He is the son of a teacher and factory worker and one of five children. He joined the United States Navy in 2003 and has been living in Hampton Roads since 2004.

In the Navy, he served with distinction as a nuclear operator on board the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower. He was deployed and served during Operations Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom.

As a  current employee at Newport News Shipbuilding, he works as an Engineering Technician and writes nuclear propulsion plant operational procedures.

Michael is also a father an 8-year old daughter. Previously, he has been active in the community through his church, AASA, and volunteering his time to help others.  More recently, Michael went back to school so he could position himself to become a lawyer to help others who don't have the resources to help themselves.

Michael also wants to be a voice for the unheard voices and groups who have encountered severe discriminitation such as the LGBT community, and our returning citizens.

Mic sees a Hampton of change. One that understands the true meaning of equality and where people can come together with respect for one another to find common ground. He believes we have the strength in us to do it and he is willing to work with people on every level, in all communities, and of different backgrounds to achieve a new and better Hampton and Virginia.
